DISCOVER QUINTA DAS PENAS: A DIVE INTO HISTORY AND RURAL ROMANTICISM
Quinta das Penas was born out of the urban expansion of the 18th century, having originally been a vast agricultural property. The main house, with a simpler structure and low ceilings, was designed to serve this purpose.
As the town grew, the house was enlarged, acquiring a new configuration that transformed it into an elegant urban mansion with striking romantic features. It is this distinctive architecture that enchants visitors today.
One of the most emblematic elements of the farm — the staircase — was repositioned in the 20th century, when the route of National Road No. 13 was changed. The staircase was then moved from the north to the west, in an intervention led by the owner Manuel Marreca, which involved partially closing off a noble façade in padded granite.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the landscape of the farm was dominated by a vineyard that stretched from the gate to the house. The granary, now gone, was located where there is now a romantic garden, as seen in a postcard dated 1906.
In 2025, Quinta das Penas will be reborn as a charming tourist destination. Here, every stone tells a story, and every corner invites you to discover a past preserved with soul. Come and experience a journey back in time, right in the heart of Minho tradition.
The space:
Quinta das Penas is set in a setting of rare tranquility, where rural tradition and history meet the natural beauty of the Alto Minho region. Surrounded by well-kept gardens, century-old trees and traditional granite walls, the property offers a serene and welcoming atmosphere, complemented by a private and exclusive swimming pool, inviting guests to relax and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Just a few minutes from the historic centre of Vila Nova de Cerveira, the farm also benefits from its proximity to the River Minho, whose presence marks the landscape and invites you to take walks along its banks. The view over the valley and the watercourse reinforces the charm of the place, which extends all the way to neighbouring Galicia, with the Spanish border just a few kilometres away.
This privileged geographical context gives Quinta das Penas a unique character, where natural, cultural and cross-border heritage come together in perfect harmony.
